One of the things that I look forward to every summer is the planting of some fresh fruit and vegetables in my deck garden. While there is not a lot of room, I do the best I can and usually have a small assortment of things to choose from. The difficulty is that because we use so many tomatoes, other things that I would like to grow are done so in small quantities, if at all.
Last spring that all changed because of the Upside Down Tomato Planter. I will be the first one to admit that I was pretty skeptical when the first ad came on. I actually didn’t believe it until attending a BBQ in the early summer and seeing one in action first hand. My buddy lives in a small row home and has a back yard that is no larger than 10’x7’. Somehow, he had managed to plant basil, peppers, tomatoes and a few other things in one corner. This was all made possible because of the Upside Down Tomato Planter.
After seeing it, I had to put in action myself. It was late in the season, but there was still plenty of time to take advantage of this incredible little gadget. After a very short period of time, I noticed that the vines that were growing upside down looked better than the ones that were coming out of the regular planters. In addition to that, they were much more manageable as they were not getting tangled up as bad.
The tomatoes came in and they were absolutely perfect. Unless you see it with your own eyes, it is hard to believe how low maintenance this Upside Down Tomato Planter is. What I really liked about it was that I no longer had to break my back to take care of that portion of my garden. In order to pick my tomatoes, all I had to do was reach out and grab them. As I have a bad back, this was extremely important to me because we eat tomatoes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It may not seem like a lot, but 3 less bends a day goes a long way for an aching back.
One thing is for sure this year, I will not be waiting till late in the season to plant my tomatoes. It is actually exciting to look forward to the spring and think about the variety of things that can be planted in the huge area that the tomatoes used to take up. The visit through the produce section of the supermarket will be short lived because there will be nothing but fresh product on the table from here on out.
